An island between Japan and Korea which was a crucial transportation link between Japan and the Asian continent before steamships made communication and trade safer and more predictable. Tsushima looks out over Tsushima Straits which was the location of the Japanese victory over the Russian Baltic fleet in 1905 in the Russo-Japanese War: only 3 of 45 Russian warships escaped to safety in Vladivostock.
