Cold War

The Cold War was the long struggle between the communist and anti-communist nations which began around 1947. Its early years saw monumental confrontations over Berlin and China as well as actual wars (Korea, for example). The Cold War was an intense ideological, economic, military and political struggle which preoccupied the world until the collapse of the USSR in the early 1990s.

  • Sukiyaki

    A Japanese food dish invented to deal with a new food in the Meiji period (1868-1912): beef. It consists of beef, mushrooms, vegetables, and noodles quickly cooked in a broth with some soy sauce and a touch of sugar in a shallow cast-iron pot. The morsels are usually dipped in raw egg before consumption.
