Maps of the Nakasendo
The map below provides access to more detailed maps and to information about the Nakasendo highway. Each numbered section on the map and the legend below can be clicked to provide a blowup of that section with the names of the post-towns. Each post-town in turn is associated with information on a particular topic. For example, Kyoto leads to a discussion about development plans in that city while O-tsumago gives access to "Traditional Architecture" which incorporates articles on "The Traditional Inn," "Traditional House Architecture," "Gardens," and "The Kura (Storehouse)." Most post-town listings also incorporate a short article entitled "The Journey to . . ." which describes the highway leading on to the next post-town (the post-towns on the map below do not include "The Journey to . . ." article).
